Population is the CSO Census 2022 count for the county's local authorities. Sales per 1,000 residents is a turnover rate: how much of a county's housing changes hands in a year, independent of its size.
What it means for a buyer or seller
A busy market is a liquid one: more comparable sales to price from, more choice, and a shorter wait to sell. The county turnover table is the fairer comparison — a big county sells more homes because it has more of them — and the counties at the top tend to be the ones building most, since a new estate sells every unit once. The town table is where the count means the most to a buyer: 1,459 sales in Dublin 15 in a year is a market with a price for every kind of home, and the street list on its page shows which estates were busiest.
The change-on-year column is about supply as much as demand. A town where sales jumped usually had a scheme complete; a fall can be a scheme finishing rather than buyers leaving. The register also lags: this year's newest sales are still arriving, so the most recent months read low everywhere.

Method and sources
- Sales: residential sales in the Property Price Register (PSRA), placed on the map by Eircode, street or locality; the national total is the sum of the 26 county boxes, which do not overlap. Town boxes can, so town counts are not summed.
- Window and floor: the 12 months to the latest register update against the 12 months before; places with fewer than 30 sales are left out of the town table.
- Population: CSO Census 2022, table FY003A "Population" by administrative county — https://data.cso.ie/table/FY003A, summed to county.
- Reproducible: computed from the register as published; the same counts are on each town and county page. Data to 2026-09-20.
